Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly has unveiled plans for major reforms of the country's planning system.

The proposed changes included in the white paper are far reaching and aim to address planning applications predominantly at the two extremes of the planning scale. At the one end are small scale building projects, at the other are major building projects of national importance.

The draft Climate Change Bill, the first of its kind in any country was today set out by Environment Secretary David Miliband (pictured).

Cameron Diaz has joined forces with former US vice president Al Gore to promote a new environmental awareness initiative.

A 24-hour global event, Live Earth, will start on July 7th (7.7.07) and will be similar to Bob Geldof's Live 8 concert.

Green MEP for London Jean Lambert calls for radical rethink over UK's 'Hothouses'.
