Solar Charge Controllers
Solar Charge Controllers (also called Solar Regulators) manage battery charging to improve system performance, prevent loss of power back through the solar panel at night, provide system status information and crucially prevent battery damage through overcharging.
We only stock tried and trusted quality brands such as Steca and SunSaver as some of the non branded imported models are rubbish (we've tried them!). It's not worth skimping on your regulator!
What size Solar Regulator do I need?
As a rough rule of thumb, if your solar wattage to battery ratio exceeds 10W solar : 100Ah battery capacity you should fit a solar charge controller.
To determine what size you require divide your total solar wattage by system voltage (12V or 24V) to give you the minimum current rating of solar charge controller required (e.g 90W solar at 12V would need a minimum of a 7.5A controller - so an 8A charge controller would be fine).
