Customer question (received via email 20th June 2020):
Hi, I was wondering if you could advise me on possible solutions to get a live camera feed from my allotment plot which is about 150 meters away from our home? I don't have a power supply there or a direct line of sight. I've looked into some 4g simply cameras but I don't really want to commit to a sim/ data plan that will cost me £20 plus a month.
The purpose of the camera is just to check in on my hens of an evening/ when we are away. Is this something you could help with?
Thanks
Kelly
Willgen Reply (Email from Bill 23rd June 2020):
Hi Kelly,
Many thanks for getting in touch and apologies for my delayed reply.
The easiest and cheapest solution will be to use a 4G camera. Our 4G cameras come with a giffgaff sim card and are easy to set up and use. Minimum cost is £6 per month and this is usually sufficient for most customers. Cost per month in most cases does not normally exceed £10/month and this with relatively high use. The giffgaff app can be downloaded to your phone and the contract can be adjusted as required to suit your requirements and can also be paused for periods when you do not need to use the camera.
If you only need the camera for when you are away, you could run the camera off a fully charged 12V leisure battery for up to 12 days (depending on how often you use it) before the battery would need to be recharged. If you want a fully self sufficient system you would need a solar kit to keep the battery charged throughout the year.
You can go for a static 4G camera or the 360 4G camera. Both will run from a 12V battery and can be solar powered if required.
Details of all of our cameras and associated products can be found here: solar security cameras.
If you have any questions or would like to proceed with an order please get in touch. I am very busy this week so apologies in advance if I don’t respond immediately to emails or phone message. I am contactable on my mobile.
Kind regards
Bill
